Sossusvlei Desert Lodge (formerly Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge) is an extraordinary safari lodge renowned for its luxurious and private accommodation. A fine selection of wines from the walk-in wine cellar complements delicious Pan-African cuisine, which is served in the glass-fronted dining room. The pool is fed by water from an underground spring. At sunset, animals are drawn to a nearby waterhole, providing added enjoyment to a sundowner drink. The lodge is situated in the foothills of the private NamibRand Nature Reserve in Namibia. Thanks to conservation efforts, the NamibRand spans 180,000 hectares (445,000 acres) of pristine desert wilderness, and is the largest private nature reserve in Southern Africa. The Namib – known as ‘The Living Desert’ – is a world of vast space, endless horizons, dramatic desert scapes and jagged mountain heights.
Led by Sossusvlei’s expert rangers and naturalists, explore the desert by quadbikes (all-terrain four-wheeled motorcycles), open 4x4 vehicles – even by hot-air balloon. Excursions to the famous Namibian Sossusvlei sand dunes, the highest in the world, and Sesriem Canyon will add to this unforgettable desert-safari experience.

With just ten villas constructed of stone and glass, guests can enjoy the solitary splendor of this remote landscape in privacy. Elements of bone, slate and stone create a dramatic, yet entirely natural, look, while rough timberwork, twiggy chandeliers and wooden sculptures call to mind the craggy mountains. Massive windows in the split-level bedroom and sitting room, as well as the ensuite bathroom, open onto the wide plains where you can’t help but lose yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the desert from the comfort of your private veranda. The dusky pink colours of the natural rose quartz that Namibia is known for provide a fresh contrast to the creams and greys of the interiors.

Tucked into a sandy socket at the base of the foothills surrounding the NambiRand Nature Reserve, &Beyond-Sossusvlei is a contemporary oasis of ten stone and glass villas overlooking towering sand dunes and seemingly endless desert terrain. Minimalist interiors open to a private veranda designed to protect you from the hot sun; at night you can stargaze through the huge skylight above your king size bed.
The 445,000 acre NambiRand Nature Reserve is private property, and only guests are allowed to explore the region on foot, ATV, or hot air balloon. During the summer the opportunity to enjoy a gourmet picnic on the shoulder of a 1000 ft. high sand dune is not to be missed.
Your days here will end watching the sunset from the spring-fed pool, and your evenings will begin in the cool, underground wine cellar were you'll select a vintage to bid you sweet dreams.
