Location:

Located just outside the Ikoma Gate of Serengeti National Park, the newly opened Serengeti Simba Lodge sits high on the Gambasage Hill.

With an almost 360 degree view overlooking Serengeti National Park to the northeast and the Grumeti River and adjacent Grumeti Reserves to the southwest, Serengeti Simba Lodge is a welcome addition to the area.

Accommodation:

Serengeti Simba is a small lodge (fifteen tents), giving guests a feeling of exclusivity. Our accommodation uses canvas in the construction, but is built on solid stone foundations with attached concrete baths and outdoor showers. Guests experience all the romance of a tent and the security of a permanent structure. Every tent/room has a magnificent view of the Serengeti from a private deck.

All rooms are solar powered and water is solar heated. We have five twin rooms and eight queen rooms with two additional rooms under construction. Triples are possible. A Stone House with family suites is under construction and when completed will bring our room total to twenty-one. The rooms are beautifully and simply decorated with local fabrics and hard wood furniture. The beds all have mosquito nets. Full amenities are provided.

Please Take Note: Our lodge is not suitable for guests with ambulatory issues as there are quite a few stairs in the common area and the paths are a bit rough and in some places are steep. Fit elderly people do fine but for the very old or disabled we regret we are unable to accommodate.

Common Areas:

Reception, lounge, bar and dining are built onto the kopje, incorporating the rocks into the design of the interior spaces. Lounges and dining open onto a large sundeck and covered deck area for sitting and dining. There is an infinity pool surrounded by a flagstone terrace with a view to the sunset. Slightly down from the main building there is an open-air fireplace for evening campfires.

Vistas of the Serengeti are ubiquitous. There is wireless Internet during generator times in reception, lounge and bar but it’s excruciatingly slow so we don’t advertise that we have Internet in order to correctly set expectations. This is due not to any fault in our equipment but to the fact that there is no 3G signal in the area. We are working with the local cell phone provider to upgrade the signal. If a guest is desperate to check email they are always welcome to use our computer. A gift shop will be open soon.

Service:

At Serengeti Simba Lodge the owners, management and staff are committed to the highest level of service for your clients. We know that the happiness of our guests depends on the level of customer service we provide.

Our staff is trained to respond immediately to guest’s concerns and to keep them in the loop while a solution is being sought. Be assured that any issues or complaints your clients bring to your attention after their stay with us will be promptly attended to and we’ll do our best to remedy the situation once we receive the feedback.

We serve continental food at Serengeti Simba Lodge. We use only the finest local ingredients available with an emphasis on healthy food including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Fresh bread is baked daily. At breakfast coffee, tea, hot chocolate and herbal teas, home made granola, a selection of fruits and muffins or pancakes (crepes) are on the buffet. Oatmeal, toast, eggs, bacon and sausage are cooked to order. We provide butter, honey, jam, marmalade and peanut butter on the table. We’ve tried hard to develop a lunch box that’s different from the rest.

If the clients eat lunch at the lodge they are served a selection of quiche, pizza and salads or in cold weather spaghetti or curry and rice. Dinner is four courses― soup (always vegetarian) with bread or rolls, starter, main course plus rice or potatoes and two vegetables followed by desert is served plated.

Our main courses alternate between beef, pork, lamb and chicken dishes. We normally provide a taste of local food such as sweet potatoes or coconut banana (very delicious!). We are really switched on to vegetarians and vegans, serving a protein dish in place of meat every meal such as lentils, nut roast, beans or cheese (for non vegans) ― we don’t just take away the meat and serve a plate of vegetables as so many places do.

Our vegetarian clients rave about our macro-burgers and one of the chef’s specialties is vegetarian lasagna. We avoid fatty, oily and fried foods. We use real butter and we do not use msg or stock cubes. At tea time (3:30 – 6:00 pm) there is tea (normal and herbal) coffee, hot chocolate and cake or cookies.
